We are hiring for our Consumer Loan Underwriter/Credit Consultant position in our Latham office/Call Center located at 1187 Troy Schenectady Road, Latham, NY 12110.

Our Consumer Loan Underwriter/Credit Consultant role focuses on customer service, underwriting, sales/referrals, and teamwork.

Business Hours:

Monday-Wednesday 8-5pm, Thursday & Friday 8-6pm, Saturday 9-1pm.

(Must have availability to work within the hours listed) If an employee is scheduled for a Saturday, the employee will be scheduled for time off during the week.

Compensation:

This position is paid hourly on a biweekly basis, and is eligible for lucrative incentives based on sales/loan volume.

Job Summary:
  • Cross-sells all credit union services to qualified members whenever possible. Seeks to attain established goals on key products as assigned on a monthly basis.
  • Interviews loan applicants to inform members of current rates, policy requirements, and the lending services offered by the credit union. Receives and underwrites loan applications. Reviews, evaluates, and renders decisions on loans within the lending guidelines established by the Board of Directors, to include approvals, denials, and counteroffers. Ensures that applications are complete and that a decision is rendered within 10- 15 minutes of application. Ensures that all loan applications are thoroughly reviewed, including credit bureau reports, with the intent of maximizing approval options, including cross-sell opportunities. Communicate decision to branch personnel or member.
  • Serves members by providing information regarding services and programs offered by the credit union. Provides Wow! service in each interaction, promoting and participating in a sales and service culture consistent with the credit unions mission of exceeding member expectations. Verifies member identification prior to giving out information. Provides members with information or routes calls to the appropriate area. Researches and solves member questions, problems, and complaints regarding their account either by telephone, written, electronic correspondence or in person. Transacts business or refers members to the appropriate staff. Assists with the training of new staff.
  • Utilizes all available tools to increase penetration of credit union products and services. This includes, but is not limited to, outbound calls, attendance at community events, site visits to Community Business Partners, etc.
  • Opens and closes all types of accounts; accepts applications for membership and ensures that each card reflects the proper signatures.
  • Totals member transactions at the end of the day; completes balance report for departmental reporting, and submits work to Accounting department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year credit union/banking experience with demonstrated sales ability;
  • Aptitude with figures and the ability to work well under pressure;
  • Above average interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Computer proficiency;
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information, to meet deadlines, to work well under pressure and a willingness to work flexible hours when required;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others, including exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace.
