HIGHWAY DESIGN ENGINEER - £500- £600 P/D - 12 MONTH CONTRACT - INSIDE IR35 Our client are a leading engineering and design consultancy who specialise in projects across the civil engineering and infrastructure. They currently require the services of a Highway Design Engineer to join their design team on the UK s largest rail project. Hybrid working: 3 days based in the office and 2 days remote working. Job Description: Responsible and taking ownership and leading the design of individual Highways asset (short bypass, flyover alignment, footpath diversion, etc.) Ensure deliverables are produced in line with the programme with thorough self-checking. Be proactive and coordinate with other team members for any issues that might delay/affect the quality of the deliverables. Adhere to the ASC quality process and ensure the right first-time delivery (PCRA). Attend design delivery meetings and take ownership of implementing the meeting actions. Regular discussion with the team to ensure overall progress and if required raised concerns with Principal Engineers as soon as possible. Apply Arcadis Health and Safety Principles during the planning and delivery of work. Propose technical methodologies to deliver project requirements. Work in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design. Undertake a leading assurance role in quality-assured project outputs (e.g., drawings, reports, specifications, etc.) to ensure that they meet the ASC standards. Check completed engineering work to ensure that it meets specified standards. Promote awareness of technical and commercial risk assessments and mitigation together with best value design options. Participates in the interdisciplinary review of project deliverables on behalf of the engineering discipline. Identifying change to the scope and progressing change management procedures. Attendance at DDR, EM, and Local Highway Authority Pre-Application meetings (as required by the discretion of the Principal Engineer). Ensure clarity while passing the information to other disciplines (or getting the information from them). Quite often emails are being overlooked, so if important and waiting for information/clarification then message through MS Teams or the email, etc. Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile Thorough experience in Highways design (local roads, junctions improvement/design) using DMRB standards. Knowledge of HS2 Technical standards will be preferable. Thorough understanding of BIM and proven experience of working in a BIM environment. Working knowledge of Civil 3D will be preferable. Demonstrable experience in preparing technical reports such as Highways Design Statement, Departure from Standards, Road Safety Audit brief, Designer s Response to Road Safety Audit, etc. Able to provide leadership and technical advice to junior project team members. Can identify the limits of personal knowledge and skills. Exercise sound independent engineering judgement and take responsibility.
