Senior Mechanical Designer Engineer Job purpose The postholder is required to produce engineering designs and associated engineering documents, including drawings, calculations and associated reports and ensure all are completed within required schedules and timelines to a high standard and as required by client and as instructed by the Engineering Manager. The postholder is required to issue all mechanical engineering documents including fabrication, assembly, general arrangements, site drawings as required and in support of division success. The postholder will also be expected to produce BoM s and manage the procurement of materials in execution of the project. Hours of work The contractual hours of this post are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day with a one-hour meal break. Core hours of work will be 8.30am and 5.00pm with flexible working option. The postholder will be expected to dedicate additional times outside of contractual working hours to ensure all tasks are complete or progressed as required. Key tasks and responsibilities • Progress small and medium sized engineering projects, as allocated and with minimal supervision. • Work as part of a team on larger projects under instruction from the Engineering Manager and other more team members acting in a lead capacity but also with minimal supervision if confident, experienced, and capable to proceed. • Participate in project work; including design work which will include all aspects of the design process; draughting and testing of products as well as other organisational tasks, as deemed appropriate, in order to ensure timely progress of projects . • Control expenditures with the limitation of project budgets. Ensure the Engineering Manager is made aware of project expenditure and budgets. • Support sales team with accurate and timely technical design proposals. • Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing & commissioning support activities of manufactured products, when required. • Any other duties for which the postholder is experienced and qualified and capable of undertaking that will add value and at the request of the Managing Director. Knowledge & experience • 5 GCSES Grades A to C (Maths / English essential) • HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) • 5 years experience in a similar role, including similar design project engineering role. • First class ability to read & produce P&ID s, Technical Drawings, GA s, Assembly Drawings & Fabrication Drawings. • Advanced operator of Solidworks & AutoCAD software packages in the preparation of the above. Training Certificates for Solidworks and 2D CAD software would be preferred but not essential. • Knowledge of piping standards, fabrication methods, ASME B31.3 & BS EN 1090 • System Design of fluid handling systems considering clients specifications & functional requirements • Selection of valves & components to adhere to the clients specifications & functional requirements • Produce BoM s & manage the procurement of materials in execution of the project • Manage subcontractors / suppliers of outsourced items in execution of the project. • Work closely with shop floor fabrication & mechanical assembly teams. • Review designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. • Co-ordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, resolving engineering design and test problems. • Control expenditures within limitation of project budget. • Support the sales team with costings & technical design proposals. • Knowledge of the designing Steel Structures / Piping Standards / Petrochemical industry / Machinery Directive would be preferable but not essential. • Good reporting skills to inform the Engineering Manager & Director. • Project Management Foundation would be preferable but not essential. • Safety Passport CCNSG / IOSH Working Safely would be preferable but not essential
