Virtual Schools Team Leader

£250-£275 a day

The overall responsibilities of the service/function are:This post sits within the Targeted Education service and works with young people on the edge of care, those in care, care leavers and their families. The service is responsible for ensuring that children and young people who are looked after or are care leavers are provided with education placements and provision that best meets their needs and have the best opportunities to succeed in life.

Specific duties and responsibilitiesinclude:As Operational Lead in the Virtual School you will have oversight and operational management of the following teams: Virtual School Officers, including business support staff. Providing day to day leadership and line management of all direct reports, ensuring their workloads are managed effectively and efficiently and resources are allocated according to demand, developing their professional skills andperformanceand helping them meet their agreed objectives.

You will lead on the specialist areas of:

•Promoting the education of children looked after, within the statutory DfE framework

•Ensuring the best possible educational provision outcomes for children and young people that are under the care of the local authority with high quality Personal Education Plans, including Post 16 learners and those children placed out of county. Key duties within your areas of responsibility are to:

•Provide expert advice and guidance on complex operational issues, including securing education placements in a timely way and advocacy with other local authorities where our looked after children are placed•Offering effective support and challenge to Head Teachers to ensure provision for our looked after children is inclusive and aspirational.

•Identify risks, linked to PEP timeliness and quality, attendance, exclusions,progress,and attainment measures as set out in DfE statutory guidance. Ensure that significant risks are escalated as appropriate for effective management

•Make decisions on day to day aspects of service delivery, including education placement, provision and issues related to attendance and exclusion This includes using reports to determine action required for pupils at risk of persistent absence; ensuring any in-year school moves avoid drift and delay; making timely operational decisions to improve access to education for children with reduced provision; monitoring the use of alternative provision; offering effective challenge to schools where a child has been excluded from school to minimise ongoing risk; ensuring data tracking for attainment and progress is robust and is used to determine effective models of additional support.

• Lead on specific programmes of improvement and innovation within the team and implement and review interventions. These may include curriculum focused intervention with direct links to improving attainment and progress, as well as leading on professional development programmes for trauma-informed practice as a wider measure for improving educational outcomes for looked after children.

In addition, you will have specific responsibility for:

•Taking operational responsibility for tracking of educational outcomes of looked after children and working closely with the Virtual School Head and Admin Manager to inform strategic planning for improved outcomes.

•Ensure educational settings are aware of any child on roll who is under the care of the virtual school

•Operational oversight of the allocation of pupil premium plus funding via the Personal Education Planning process, to ensure that impact of spend is properly accounted for.

•Take responsibility for ensuring all relevant workers around the childe.g.Social workers, school staff, independent reviewing officers etc are aware of their role in the development and delivery of Personal Education Plans.

•Work directly with schools and other educational
